Art Histories
The history of art is the history of humankind. From drawings on cave walls to paintings and photographs of how we see the world around us to a slashed canvas, art chronicles the evolution of society and visualises the most important, yet so often intangible, moments in our history. But art, and artists, can be mendacious, sometimes used to tell an idealised narrative or to conceal what one doesn’t want remembered. In amongst all this chaos lies deeper questions not just about how art is used to interrogate the nature of being, but about how art is also used to dictate how people see themselves, and if they are able to at all.
