Art Mysteries

Art history is rife with grand myths and romantic narratives that have captivated generations, transporting us through time and space to witness history's most pivotal moments. But all is not what it seems. History, as narrated by art, has been shaped and skewed by the dominant voices of Western, white, male artists on whom the canon focuses. Beneath the surface lies a less idyllic reality: countless artworks and cultural artefacts created by non-Western and non-white artists have been ignored, lost, stolen, destroyed or otherwise deliberately erased from view — where did they go? Who took them and why? Have they been found, and if so, were they ever returned to their rightful owners?
